Control Processes of COVID-19 without Lockdown or Shutdown (S. Korean Case)


Public authority initiates the *social distancing when an epidemic occurs. 

*Social distancing is a set of infection control action intended to stop or slow down the spread of a contagious disease. 

1. Mask & Wash: Individuals practice personal hygiene actions with masks and hand washing. 


2. Test: Medical authority performs the mass- scale test to identify infected individuals and groups (e.g. Drive-through / Walk-through test facility).


3. Catch: Public authority enforces infected individuals and groups not moving.


4. Trace: Epidemic Intelligence & Public authority trace all possible infected individuals, groups, and places. 


5. Alert: Public authority informs  people possible infection (people, area, route, space) in public


6. Isolate: Public authority isolates infected people, area, and route, and space. 


7. Treat: Medical authority serves people to get proper treatments.  


8. Release: Cured, and back to society.

South Korean can slow down the spread of COVID-19 successfully with following and keeping these control processes.

이를 수영에 비유하면, 물살을 타는 것과 거스르는 것의 차이라고 할 수 있다. 물살을 타면 힘도 덜 들고 속도도 잘 나지만 물살을 거스르면 힘만 빠진다. 물살을 타면 눈부시게 나아가지만 물살을 거스르면 힘겹게 발버둥 쳐야 한다. (불편한 상황과 작업을 견뎌 내며 일해야 한다.) 자신의 약점인 영역에서는 아무리 발버둥 쳐도 기력만 고갈될 뿐이다. 발버둥 칠 기운과 끈기로 강점을 발휘한다면 멀리까지 나아갈 수 있다.

A healthy economy is a result of balancing 'economic prosperity' and 'economic justice'.

This idea comes from communicating with a Chinese student today. She wants to share her concerns about current Chinese economy; business; management problems, and I catch a sense that the young talented individual has a (disoriented) dilemma - increasing economic prosperity as well as economic justice. I suggest her to think about "balancing like Yin & Yang". She immediately understands that 'we need both consequently though one seems prevailing another for a while'.

Yes, management, in common' is balancing and learning from 'Paradox or Dilemma'. ^^

Managers and Executive, 

You may have difficulties in motivating your people to engage in their work. And you may think "Should I give more bonus or reward to motivate my people?". OK... but can you take a moment and think what non-financial rewards can make people engage in their work? 

Daniel Pink proposes three factors that lead to better performance and personal satisfaction. 

1. Autonomy

2. Mastery 

3. Purpose

Simply people want to be "Self-directed" in work. 

People want utilize their skills. 

People want to get connected with you and they want to be inspired by your vision.  

Unnecessary managing and controlling over your people (micro-management) kills people's motivation regardless you provide fantastic financial rewards. 

Can you simply let your people know your motivating 'purpose'? And can you empower your people design their work and utilize their skills to accomplish mutual purpose? 

You'd better invest your most precious resource (the Time and Power) with you people before giving our your tangible resources (Money) for nothing.  

Human Spirit, by nature, want to be free from unnecessary oppression. 

Let your people's spirit arise and shine. Then they will do work by themselves for you.
