Message from the Dean
The spring semester was an exciting time of innovation and engagement at the College of Business and Public Management (CBPM). Hundreds of CBPM students presented their own research projects at Kean Research Days and one of our own faculty members — Professor Min Chung Han — was recognized as Kean’s Faculty Research Mentor of the Year. Congratulations, Dr. Han!
Providing an innovative curriculum is one of the College’s four strategic goals. Faculty and students together took experiential learning to a whole new level this spring by applying their business expertise to develop and present strategic solutions to representatives of the NFL's New York Jets. Kean students impressed the Jets executives with how they approached the projects and delivered top-quality results.
You may recall that last year the College hired 17 new faculty members. I am excited to announce that 10 more full-time faculty will be joining us this fall. These additions bring new ideas and research opportunities that keep CBPM vibrant and builds on the world-class reputation of the University.
It is a great time to be a Cougar, and I hope that you will find opportunities to be part of the great things that are happening at the College and on campus.

Criminal Justice Distinguished Speaker Series: NJ State Police Colonel Callahan
Colonel Patrick Callahan (right) from the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) kicked off the Criminal Justice Distinguished Speaker Series with an engaging discussion about his career from patrol officer to head of the NJSP.
Callahan shared his personal insights and experiences to illustrate exactly what the NJSP does, pointing out that they are much more than highway patrol officers. He explained how they often go to other states and countries to assist during emergencies, including the recent hurricane in Puerto Rico. Callahan also offered information about the police academy program and explained the specialty areas students could pursue.

Dean’s Forum Welcomes Entrepreneur Extraordinaire
The spring edition of the Dean’s Forum event focused on entrepreneurship. Chieh Huang, the co-founder of boxed.com, is a globally recognized entrepreneur who built his company from a startup in his parent’s garage to a major publically traded internet seller of consumer products.
Huang is an innovator, a serial entrepreneur and a philanthropist. He personally pays for the college tuition of his full-time employees’ children, recognizing that he wouldn’t be where he is today if not for the education he received.
He has been named to Business Week’s “50 People to Watch,” Goldman Sachs’ “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs” and Entrepreneur magazine’s “50 Most Daring Entrepreneurs.”
In the forum, Huang shared honest insights about his journey from college to career as well as his many entrepreneurial startups.

Min Chung Han, Ph.D., professor in the School of Management and Marketing, was recognized at this year’s Research Days for her work supporting students. She has mentored students in their research, assisted with their publications and joined them in presenting their work at national and international conferences.

CBPM Research Forum Highlights Faculty

Students Earn Top Spot in National Marketing Competition

For the second year in a row, the Kean Association of Marketing (KAM) won the national Marketing Madness competition, which earned them a portion of a $3,500 cash prize.
The Marketing Madness competition is an undergraduate marketing competition hosted by the United States Postal Service’s Direct Effect Program. Hundreds of students and faculty members from colleges and universities across the country participated in the competition to compete, learn and share ideas about integrated marketing. SUNY Geneseo and Oklahoma State University placed 2nd and 3rd.
The Kean Association of Marketing was founded in 2019 and currently has 76 members, including faculty advisor Amanda Han, Ph.D., e-board president Priscilla Calderon and secretary Joell Velez who led the team’s efforts in the competition.

Kean Students Take On New York Jets Projects
Members of the winning sports marketing student team Davon Smith, Jason Pleitez, Roise Joram, Adalberto Candia-Aguilar and Riley Heesters with three Jets staffers (middle).
Students in Kean’s sports marketing class participated in a real-life case addressing how the New York Jets could best engage corporate sponsorships. Student teams presented their recommendations to a panel of Jets professional staff and were ranked for their innovation, approach and outcomes.
A second group of Kean students completed a Jets experience course that brought together marketing, management, communication and graphic design majors. The students worked in cross-disciplinary teams to develop recommendations to help the Jets increase their fanbase of 13- to 24-year-olds. Kean President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D., joined the student teams for their final presentations at MetLife Stadium.
