[GUIDE] Kean University (Wenzhou), Plagiarism Check - Turnitin

Kean USA Turnitin Software for Plagiarism / Overlapping Checking for Research Papers. 

 

2022.08.23: A Research Paper to a A*-level Journal was rejected,  and editor requested resubmit after improving the Overall Similary issue from Crossref (CrossChecker TM) - affiliated with Turnitin software (51% -> less than 30%). The problem occured mainly because of "Self-referencing" of a previous research paper (11%). 

 

To avoid these unconscious 'research integrity' or 'originality' issues, Kean USA provide the "Turnitin" software for instructors. 

 

In order to apply for the Kean Turnitin, One should send an request Email to Mz. Vanessa Avila <avilava@kean.edu>

 

 

She will help you to set up a Turniitin Account:

Once account is setup, Turnitin Password Setup is necessary. 

 

When your Account/Password set up is completed, you can add a Course at the New LMS system (CANVAS, since 2022 Fall).

2022.09.17: Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) rule for 'Top-Tier' Journals.

 

In parallel with the Open Science Initiative (https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/resources/open-science)

 

Many Top tier journals recently enforced the application of "Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP)" rule for all manuscripts.

The transparency and Openness section is frequently required to be added in the Research Method part as a sub-subsection. 

 

This is an example of Kean/WKU research colloquium's TOP compliance.

2023. 07. 09.: A faculty member from the Accounting department reported an issue with their Turnitin ID not functioning. The headquarters (HQ) identified the problem as stemming from the expiration of the HQ's API contract. HQ promptly reached out to Turnitin and the issue was resolved within three days, by July 11, 2023.

1, Go to Turnitin.com and login with your Instititional ID/PWD:

Remarks: Aboslutely, you can use the CANVAS integration if you want to use the Institutional LMS. 

 

2. Add Class

 

3. Add section

*Remark: Please remember and share the Class ID and Enrollment password

 

 

3. Create New Assignment under the new section. 

 

4. Set options appropriately. 

 

5. Add your students at the Section / Assignement under the student Menu. 

 

Go to CANVAS and SandBox or Class you created! 

 

At Canvas, you must see the stduent view to submit a paper for Turnitin Check.

Then, click the New Attempt, Once submitted, You must return to the Instructor's view through "Leave Student View". 

 

In the right side corner, There must the SpeedGrader, click te Number of % to see the results: 

 

Click XX%, then, you will see the Flags and % of violation, However, 

 

Address plagiarimsm and high AI ratio. 

For option, pleas echeck 10 words permissible and Exclude Quotes and Exclude Bibliogaphy to test the real Plagiarism and AI detection. 

 

6. Student can submit and use the Turnitin! 

 

TurnitIn would check out the overall Plagiarims according the options. 

Please checkout, review and improve the manuscript.
